Companies are becoming more concerned with environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) performance as the notion of sustainability gains mainstream. The paper aims to explore the influence of green R&D investment on corporate performance and ESG evaluation, and it employs digital transformation, corporate growth, firm size, and firm age as control variables. The data is collect from Chinese listed companies between 2016 to 2021. Based on sustainability and social responsibility theories, the empirical regression analysis shows that a significant positive impact of green R&D investment on corporate performance and ESG evaluation. Simultaneously, companies that are longer established and have a higher pace of growth might encounter issues that result in resource misallocation and challenges with strategy transition, both of which hinder their sustainable development.
