Effects of Shared Leadership Perception on Perceived Intragroup Conflict: An Investigation in Technology Startups in Turkey

Though research about antecedents of competitiveness reveals many factors, a common ground appears to be teamwork. Keeping this in mind, this study considers teamwork, but goes one step further by addressing what lies beneath teamwork: collectivism. A review about collectivist notion in groups’ points out that intragroup conflict, and management and leadership are the two outstanding determinants of group effectiveness. A further outcome from the review is that shared leadership is also emphasized within this notion. Therefore, this study investigates if and how shared leadership perception is effective on perception about intragroup conflict. The research, performed in technology startups in a techno park in the city of ?stanbul, reveals noteworthy results. There is a similarity between the structures of perceived shared leadership and intragroup conflict perception in the way that both emphasize their own formal and informal components distinctively. The findings also prove that the participants’ perceived intragroup conflict changes based on their perception towards shared leadership. This change, nevertheless, is not fully possible when the attention turns from the macro level to the factor level.
