Currently, environmental performance is intricately linked to the sustainable development of companies and organizations, while also demonstrating a direct impact on the health of both social and natural ecosystems. This study investigates the relationship between CEO career attention and environmental performance from perspective of CEO characteristic. Analyzing a sample of public listed companies on the Chinese stock exchange from 2012 to 2022 reveals that CEO career attention have a significant positive impact on environmental performance. Our findings offer a novel perspective on relationship between CEO characteristics and environmental performance. Practically, understanding how to improve corporate environmental performance and foster economic-environmental synergy through the lens of CEO characteristics represents a significant contribution of this research.
