The process of data collection in qualitative research is a vital aspect due to its distinct nature compared to other research methodologies. Consistency in systematic data collection is crucial, as qualitative studies focus extensively on explaining steps, processes, and the reasons behind certain events. This paper aims to discuss the experience and significance of data collection processes in qualitative research, particularly in the context of Indigenous communities. Data in the form of words or phrases, collected through interviews, observations, and field notes, serve as the cornerstone of qualitative studies. Researchers, as the primary instrument in data collection, must be present in the studied situation, listening and observing the phenomenon according to the research objectives. Thorough preparation and careful planning are essential to ensure smooth research execution in the field. In data collection involving Indigenous communities, several critical considerations require meticulous planning, as the process demands effective time management aligned with the study design suited to the uniqueness of Orang Asli communities as an exclusive society. A systematic approach is crucial as these communities adhere strongly to their customs and traditions, with settlement patterns often remote from mainstream development in this era of rapid technological advancements, particularly in the field of education.
